Make-up Tips For The Mother Of The Bride

momandbride
Almost as important as the bride on her wedding day, is the mother of the bride.  While not wanting to take away from her daughter's big day, the mother of the bride still wants to look her best!  After all, everyone will be asking "where is the bride's mother"?

To reduce the appearance of fine lines and even skin tone, use a primer.  A primer can help your foundation last from morning until night and will give you the look of a flawless complexion.  Your foundation should be moisturizing and lightweight; not cakey.  To eliminate a shiny reflection in pictures, apply a light dusting of loose powder after your foundation...but use sparingly.  Apply the powder to your forehead, nose and chin.  Don't forget to add a concealer to help conceal dark circles under your eyes, which will make you look more rested.  As a rule of thumb, your concealer should match your foundation.

Your eyes are the most focal point of your face.  For eyeshadows, use a matt shadow in soft colors.  Avoid dark colors and glittery products.  Shimmery make-up will accentuate lines and creases.  If you use an eyeliner, try using a soft glide pencil, that you can blend instead of a liquid eyeliner.  Liquid liners cause a lot of grief for more mature women because of the delicate skin on our eyelids tend to become loose as we age, making it difficult to draw a smooth line.  A blendable, soft glide pencil provides eye definition by gently smudging the line and blending with an applicator.  To ensure your make-up looks fresher longer, try blending your soft glide pencil with a coordinating matte eye shadow, for a natural effect.

Eyebrows should frame your face and give you an instant facelift. Use a subtle shade of eyebrow pencil to fill in or shape your eyebrows.

Don't skimp on the lip liner.  A good lip liner will keep the lipstick from bleeding into fine lines in the lip area and will give your lips a fuller appearance.

With the right make-up, you can look 10 years younger!  Hire a make-up consultant, who can do just that.  Be sure to meet with her ahead of time to discuss the look you want.

Wedding Day Tips

Based on the the advice from a number experienced wedding makeup artists, here are a few wedding day tips which may help you on your big day.

1 - When getting your hair and make-up done, you’ll want something loose fitting and comfortable. Dressing gowns are great, as are big button up shirts or a tops; something you can easily get over your head when your hair is done.

2 - Unless your dress has shoulders/sleeves you’ll also probably not want bra straps so I tend to advise clients to slip off their straps and not wear socks in the morning. Like any of you need an excuse for comfy slippers!?

3 - In prep for make-up I’d always say in the weeks prior to wedding day to eat lots of fruit and vegetables, get plenty of water, and sleep.  I really appreciate that this is easier said than done when you've a hundred of things on your mind but making an effort to do them will improve your mood, your skin and your general health.

4 - Take the opportunity while you can to sit down. You’re going to be on your feet all day, meeting, greeting, dancing, toasting etc, so in the morning chill out a bit.

5 - Breakfast. Eat some! You've a long day ahead, even if it's just a biscuit every hour something in your tummy will help you. The butterflies might not get you but at least fuelling your body for what'll be a long day believe me, you'll need the energy.

Summer Bridal Makeup Tips

Everyone knows that Summer is one of the most popular times of the year for a wedding celebration. The days are longer, and sunny weather is the perfect backdrop for any outdoor ceremony. But summer heat can also wreak havoc on hair and wedding makeup, causing brides to have to take a few more steps in preparing beauty looks for the big day.

To get you ready to withstand the elements, here are a few Summer bride tips:

What are the best looks for summer brides?

“Take your beauty cues from the weather, the best look for a summer bride would be a clean and simple palette—sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer, and creme blush will help beat humidity. Also, candy pink generally looks great on all skin color, hair color, and age ranges, so incorporating those colors into your eye shadow, lipstick, or your bridesmaid’s wedding makeup is an easy way to ensure a great look.”

What beauty tools will help weather the elements during a summer wedding? What products should a bride keep in her survival makeup kit?

“Waterproof mascara, face primer (it will keep foundation in place), translucent powder, and rice paper/oil blotting paper are all essential for summer weddings. As for her survival kit, she should keep tissue, breath mints, and lip gloss or lipstick along with the waterproof mascara and oil blotting papers.”

Any professional advice for brides when testing wedding makeup looks for her big day?

“Go for a trial make up application before your wedding day. Be honest about the look you want to create and if the artist doesn’t achieve it go to another makeup artist- it’s your day you shouldn’t be shy about what you want. Also, remember that you still want to look like yourself, only enhanced. So don’t over-apply your makeup. Maybe add fake lashes or do a smoky eye, however not everything has to be bold, trendy, or overdone just because it’s your wedding day. You will have these pictures forever and you don’t want to look back and cringe at your wedding makeup.”

NYC Wedding Makeup Artist Tips

When it comes to wedding makeup, you want to make sure that everything is perfect on the big day. It is always recommended to hire a professional NYC wedding makeup artist. If you are deciding to opt against hiring a NYC wedding makeup artist, here are a few tips:

NYC Wedding Makeup Artist Tips

  • Avoid SPF foundations/skincare. Expert NYC wedding makeup artists will tell you some foundations with high spfs have an ingredient in them called Titanium Dioxide, which will react to the flash of a camera and pale you out.
  • Do your eye makeup first. A NYC wedding makeup artist will prep your skin and then go straight into their eye makeup. Doing the skin first and then eyes prevents you from leaning all over the face while applying the eyeshadow.
  • Use a primer under your foundation. Most good makeup brands will have a primer in their makeup range. Primers help to smooth out your skin, tone down uneven patches and redness, and make the foundation or makeup you put on last all day. Any professional NYC wedding makeup artist would recommend this.
  • Apply your concealer after your foundation. Do the skin first then use a little blending brush to apply the concealer where necessary.
  • Don’t Over Powder. Stick to either translucent powders or very natural powders. Powder can dull the skin and look very cakey.

If you have decided that you would like to hire a NYC wedding makeup artist, Beauty On Location offers professional makeup and bridal makeup services to the Northern NJ and NYC area and has years of experience!. Call today at (908)938-1236 or visit our Homepage.
