Your makeup should enhance your features. Most brides want a flawless look. An experienced makeup artist can use just the right colors and techniques to achieve the exact look you desire. It is the expert Artist that knows how to blend the colors to give you that natural look, which will result in beautiful photos. But how do you know if she is the right artist for you?

You want your artist to use minimal makeup; the makeup should highlight your features, giving you that natural look, not piling on tons of makeup.  You should feel comfortable with the techniques she is using.  For example, she should not be pushing you to do something you do not like or feel uncomfortable with.  Your artist is the professional and she is there to advise you and offer options.  But the decision is ultimately yours, as to what you want.

What kind of makeup is your artist using?  Are her tools clean? Your artist should be using quality products…ask your artist what line of products she uses. Will they withstand the heat on a hot, humid summer day? Will they last from morning until late evening? Don’t be afraid to ask your artist for hints on how to keep your makeup looking fresh all day.  Your artist should be using clean tools on each client to avoid spreading bacteria causing breakouts and infections.

You should provide your artist with a background on your skin type, if you have any allergies or sensitivities, so that she can choose the best products for you.

A trial run is a must! You will need to have a trial run of your makeup prior to your wedding day to make sure you are both on the same page and that you are completely satisfied with the look your artist has created for you.  Colors should be discussed and decided on well in advance.

You will need to advise your makeup artist if you will need her services for other women in your group, such as mother/mother-in-law, other family members or bridesmaids.  You will need to provide the number of  women getting their makeup and/or hair done in order to ensure for re-dos, touch-ups, etc.

Remember, your artist is there to work with you to achieve a stress-free day. Your wedding day should be one of the happiest days of your life. She is there to provide relief and reduce stress.  Your artist should be someone that you like and feel comfortable with.

Finally, ask your artist for references and check out their website.
